SIDEB / PRIVACY

What we keep, why, and how to have it gone.

Human voice. No dark patterns. No selling data. Ever.

The short version

sideb.club is a daily music chart. To run it we need to know who you are (so your votes count), what you've submitted, and what you've voted on. That's everything.

If you connect Spotify, we use it to personalise your feed and to let you listen to a day or a week of finds without leaving the site. We ask only for the permissions that make that work — and we never add anything to your Spotify without asking you first, every time it matters (creating a playlist, saving a track, and so on).

What we store about you

  • Your email, for sign-in and the occasional important note.
  • Your username, display name, and avatar. If you signed in with Google or Spotify, these come from what you've already made public on that account.
  • The songs you've submitted, the votes you've cast, and the small signals you give us (on-repeat, fire).
  • If you connect Spotify, the access keys we need to act on your behalf. These stay on our server and are never sent to your browser.

We do notkeep your Spotify listening history, top artists, or library. When we need any of that to personalise your feed, we ask Spotify in the moment and throw the answer away as soon as we've used it.

Who can see what

Your submissions, votes, and username are public — they're what the chart is made of. Your email is never shown publicly. Your Spotify access keys are encrypted on our server and only used when something you did on the site needs us to talk to Spotify on your behalf.

What we ask Spotify for

Whether you sign in with Spotify or connect it later, we ask for the same set of permissions — enough to make the in-page player and personalisation work from day one, and nothing else:

  • Your email, so we can match your sideb.club and Spotify accounts.
  • Your top tracks and artists, so we can personalise the feed.
  • Your saved library, so we can flag finds you've already saved.
  • Playback — required by Spotify to stream songs inside sideb.club (Premium only).
  • Play, pause, and skip on the sideb.club player.
  • Read what's currently playing, so the player reflects reality.

What we do not ask for by default: anything that lets us write to your Spotify. Saving a find to a playlist or to your Liked Songs requires extra permission, and we only ask for it at the moment you click a save button. If you never use those features, we never ask.

When we write to your Spotify

We never add to your Spotify account without asking you first. The default set of permissions lets us run the sideb.club player — play, pause, skip — and that's it. Your playlists and library are untouchable at that level.

The first time you click Save as playlist or Save to Spotify, we show a quick confirm, then send you through Spotify's consent screen to grant the extra permission. You land back where you were and the next click does the save. After that, the permission stays — but we still only write when you press save. Nothing happens in the background. You can take it back any time via Settings → Connections (disconnect, then reconnect to go back to the default set).

Disconnecting Spotify

Go to Settings → Connections and click Disconnect. We immediately delete your Spotify keys on our side and cut the link to your account. For total peace of mind, also visit spotify.com/account/apps and remove sideb.club there too — that revokes the connection at Spotify's end, belt-and-braces.

Deleting your sideb.club account

Email privacy@sideb.club from the address on your account and we'll remove everything: your account, profile, submissions, votes, signals, and any Spotify connection. We'll write back to confirm once it's done.

A one-click delete button is coming to the settings page. Until then a human does it by hand — a bit slower, but thorough.

Security

Your data is encrypted where it's stored and encrypted again every time it travels between you and us. Our sensitive keys — the ones that unlock anything — live only on our servers and never reach your browser. If something ever goes wrong, we'll tell you within 72 hours of finding out, along with what was affected and what to do about it.

Analytics

No third-party analytics. No ad pixels. No trackers. The only thing we record are the basic server logs we need to fix bugs and stop abuse — nothing that builds a profile of you or follows you around the web.

Questions

Email privacy@sideb.club. We answer in days, not weeks. Every change to this page is tracked publicly — if we ever change how we handle your data, the update lands here with a date attached.
